ESOTERIC

Esoteric

This is the old sky-myth carried into Scripture. Michael is Venus, the planet of love, and the war in heaven is Venus casting Saturn out, the same story the Greeks told of Kronos overthrown. Saturn is the dragon: the heavy conditioning of society, family, and religion that has ruled the inner heaven since childhood, the old serpent coiled at the base of a person and pulling the life-force downward.

So the battle is astronomical before it is anything else, and inside a person it is the rising force of love unseating the old ruling weight. What has governed by fear and inherited law is thrown down so a higher order can take the throne.

Michael: Venus, the force of love rising in the inner heaven Dragon and old serpent: Saturn, the conditioning of society, family, and religion coiled at the base of a person Heaven: the inner sky where these forces contend for rule

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

The war is not somewhere else. It runs through the deepest architecture of every mind, the permanent conflict between the spirit that orders and the spirit that devours. The dragon is the proximal predator that once stalked our ancestors, raised now to cosmic scale, the ancient enemy coiled at the root of chaos itself. Against it stands the principle of courageous order, and the battle between them never fully ends. Each person fights it again, deciding daily which side he arms.

Pride is what turns a man toward the dragon. The prideful overreach that grasps at power it has not earned goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. You are conscripted whether you wished to be or not. What matters is which angels you fight beside.

Live Revelation 12:7 today

  1. Pick one rule you live by that you never actually chose, about money, success, how to look, what you owe people. Say it out loud today and ask whether you believe it.
  2. With one family member or old friend, respond out of affection rather than the old script between you. Just once, and see how strange and light it feels.
  3. When fear gives you an order under pressure today, stay quiet, play it safe, protect yourself first, ask what love would do in the same moment and do that instead.

Who has been quietly running my decisions, and would I give them the job today if I had the choice?

Tao Te Ching 38

When the real thing is lost, rules and etiquette move in and try to run the house. The inherited code looks like order and is actually the absence of it.

Zen

The teachers tell students to kill the Buddha they are carrying around, meaning the borrowed authority in their heads. What was handed to you has to be put down before you can see anything for yourself.

Sufism · Rumi

In the Masnavi he writes that through love thorns become roses and bitter things turn sweet. The same material is transformed, not removed, once love has the rule.
