Revelation 15:4 Meaning Who Wouldn’t Fear You

Who wouldn’t fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you only are holy. For all the nations will come and worship before you. For your righteous acts have been revealed.

What does Revelation 15:4 mean?

Awe is the natural weather of a heart that sees clearly, and its absence is the real disease: the cold shrug that treats the Holy One as one item among many. When wonder dries up, worship becomes a chore rattled off without a pulse.

Sufism

Awe is the natural weather of a heart that sees clearly, and its absence is the real disease: the cold shrug that treats the Holy One as one item among many. When wonder dries up, worship becomes a chore rattled off without a pulse.

The cure is to slow down and look until the awe returns, letting one honest act of God reopen the eyes. He alone is set apart, and the whole gathering of the nations is only many faces turning at last toward the single light that was always there to be seen.

Live Revelation 15:4 today

  1. Look at one ordinary thing today for a full minute with no phone involved, a tree on your street, your own hand, steam off a cup. Wonder does not arrive on command, but it rarely arrives without the minute.
  2. Ask one person what still amazes them, and actually wait through the pause before they answer. Hearing it out loud from someone else often restarts your own.
  3. When you catch yourself going through something important with a flat voice, a prayer, an apology, a goodbye at the door, stop mid-sentence and start it again slowly. The words were fine, the pulse had gone out of them.

What have you stopped finding remarkable that would stun you if you saw it for the first time tonight?

The same truth in other traditions

Judaism · Abraham Joshua Heschel

He called wonder a duty, not a mood, and said the opposite of faith is taking things for granted. A person who stops being amazed has gone dull, not grown up.

Stoicism · Seneca

He wrote that we walk under the stars with no more interest than we give a ceiling. The sky did not shrink, our attention did.

Zhuangzi

He kept turning readers back to the sheer size of what is, until their arguments about it looked small. Standing in front of it, the honest response is a long breath rather than a verdict.
