Revelation 2:11 Meaning He Who Has an Ear

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies. He who overcomes won’t be harmed by the second death.

What does Revelation 2:11 mean?

There is a listening deeper than the ear, a stillness in you that hears when the noise of thought falls silent. To hear in this way is already to awaken, and the one who awakens overcomes something the mind never can.

Ego v. Being

There is a listening deeper than the ear, a stillness in you that hears when the noise of thought falls silent. To hear in this way is already to awaken, and the one who awakens overcomes something the mind never can.

The first death takes the body, as all forms are taken. But the second death is the mind's terror that you yourself will end. That terror dissolves the moment you know yourself as the awareness in which body and thought arise. You are not touched by the second death because you are the awareness in which the body appears, and that awareness does not end when the body does.

Live Revelation 2:11 today

  1. Sit for a minute and watch one thought come and go without climbing into it. Feel the difference between the thought and the one who saw it.
  2. When someone pushes a button in you, text, tone, offhand comment, catch the reaction rising and let a second pass before you act. You are the space it happened in, not the reaction.
  3. When something you built gets cut, criticized or ignored, feel the sting and then ask what in you is actually damaged. Usually only the picture you had of yourself.

Who is it that is watching all of this?

The same truth in other traditions

Upanishads

The teaching is that you are not the body or the mind but the awareness in which both appear. What is watching is not one of the things that comes and goes.

Taoism · Chuang Tzu

He woke from dreaming he was a butterfly and asked which one was really dreaming. The one asking was there for both.

Advaita Vedanta · Ramana Maharshi

He said you were there before the thought I came, and you are there when it goes. Look for who is looking and the fear of ending has nowhere to stand.
