Revelation 7:4 Meaning I Heard the Number of Those

I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the children of Israel:

What does Revelation 7:4 mean?

A perfected wholeness is marked and secured within a person. The number 144,000 is 12 multiplied by 12 and then a thousandfold: the 12 stands for completeness, the full round of powers and faculties in the self, and squared it becomes that completeness brought to its finished order.

A perfected wholeness is marked and secured within a person. The number 144,000 is 12 multiplied by 12 and then a thousandfold: the 12 stands for completeness, the full round of powers and faculties in the self, and squared it becomes that completeness brought to its finished order.

To be sealed is to be stamped and protected in consciousness, set apart and made secure. The tribes are the divisions of the whole self, every faculty and power counted into the total. What is sealed is the entire inner company brought to perfection, every part of a person accounted for and preserved when the reckoning comes.

The number 144,000: the 12 completed and squared, wholeness brought to finished order 12 tribes: the divisions and faculties of the whole self, every power counted in Seal: the mark of protection stamped on what is set apart and made secure within

Live Revelation 7:4 today

  1. Bring a part of yourself you usually leave at the door into today. The humor, the softness, the curiosity you keep separate from work, let it come along.
  2. With one person, be the same person you are when nobody is watching. Drop one small bit of the performance and see that it holds.
  3. When you are being judged on one slice of your life, a review, a number, a bad week, remember that the slice is not the whole of you. The grade is about one part, and you are not one part.

Which part of me have I quietly decided does not belong?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen · the ten ox-herding pictures

The path is not about cutting away most of yourself and keeping the holy part. It ends with the whole ordinary person walking back into the marketplace, nothing left behind.

Hinduism · Bhagavad Gita

The Self is not destroyed and cannot be divided. What you really are is already entire, whatever the surface of your life looks like today.

Judaism · the sealing of what is holy

To set something apart is not to shrink it but to guard it. The seal does not reduce what it protects, it keeps the whole of it safe.
