Revelation 8:10 · World English Bible

Revelation 8:10 Meaning The Third Angel Sounded

The third angel sounded, and a great star fell from the sky, burning like a torch, and it fell on one third of the rivers, and on the springs of the waters.

What does Revelation 8:10 mean?

A high point of light drops out of its own sky, no longer holding its place above but plunging into the moving waters of a person. The star that once burned like a steady lamp becomes a poison the moment it leaves its station, and where it lands is the feeling-life: the rivers and springs that carry a person's moods and desires.

A high point of light drops out of its own sky, no longer holding its place above but plunging into the moving waters of a person. The star that once burned like a steady lamp becomes a poison the moment it leaves its station, and where it lands is the feeling-life: the rivers and springs that carry a person's moods and desires. This is a fall, not a healing. Bitter thoughts pressed in from the world seep into the streams of emotion and turn them sour, until the very waters a person drinks from within taste of wormwood.

The judgment is that when a light meant to shine from above instead sinks into the emotions, it curdles them. The third part struck says the harm reaches deep but does not yet take the whole.

Star: a shining center of the mind that belongs on high, ruinous once it falls into the lower feelings Rivers: the flowing currents of emotion and desire that run through a person Fountains of waters: the deep springs from which a person's moods and longings well up Wormwood: the bitterness bred in the emotions by carnal, world-borrowed thoughts pressed into the mind

Live Revelation 8:10 today

  1. When you catch yourself replaying a line someone said online or a comparison you picked up scrolling, put the phone down and let your chest settle before you decide anything. The thought came from outside you; it does not get to set your mood for the day.
  2. In a group chat that has turned bitter, be the one who does not add the next sharp line. You can answer the actual question and leave the poison where it is.
  3. When you are stuck in traffic or a long grocery line and your mind starts grinding, name what it is feeding you. Say it plainly to yourself, a bitter thought, and go back to your breath.

What did I let in today that I am now tasting in my mood?

The same truth in other traditions

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He wrote that the mind takes on the color of whatever it dwells on, and that a judgment picked up from the crowd becomes your own mood if you let it sit. Guard what you repeat to yourself and the inner water stays clean.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

Everything begins with thought; act from a sour one and the sourness follows you like a cart's wheel follows the ox. The feeling does not arrive on its own, it is born from what the mind took in.

Tao Te Ching

Muddy water clears when it is allowed to stand still. Stirring it to fix it only spreads the silt further.
