Revelation 9:4 · World English Bible

Revelation 9:4 Meaning They Were Told That They Should Not

They were told that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only those people who don’t have God’s seal on their foreheads.

What does Revelation 9:4 mean?

The tormenting swarm cannot touch what is green and living in a person, only what has no mark of awareness at the brow. Grass and every green thing and the tree are the growing life of the body, the sap that still rises, and these are spared.

Esoteric

The tormenting swarm cannot touch what is green and living in a person, only what has no mark of awareness at the brow. Grass and every green thing and the tree are the growing life of the body, the sap that still rises, and these are spared. What is stung is the mind that carries no seal in the forehead, the person living entirely in surface thought with the inner eye shut. The seal of God in the forehead is that single center of higher sight awakened at the brow, and where it is lit the plague of restless torment finds nothing to bite. The tree in particular is the spine and nervous system standing upright through the body, the trunk of life that stays untouched. The living force of a person is safe wherever inner sight has been lit, and only the mind trapped in surface thought is left open to the sting.

Seal of God in the foreheads: the single center of higher awareness awakened at the brow, the mark that protects a person from the sting of aimless mental torment. Grass and green thing: the fresh living force of the body, the sap and vitality that keep rising through a person. Tree: the spine and nerve column standing upright through the body, the trunk of life left unharmed.

Live Revelation 9:4 today

  1. When the restless pull starts, refreshing a feed, checking for a reply that is not coming, put your hand on your own chest and feel your breath for ten seconds. Being awake to yourself takes the sting out of it.
  2. When someone tries to hook you with a jab or a guilt trip, stay friendly and do not take the bait. You can see what is happening and still answer kindly.
  3. In a meeting or an argument where the pressure is on, stay aware of yourself as well as of them. The part of you that is watching cannot be pulled under.

What keeps stinging me simply because I was not paying attention?

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He wrote that a person has a citadel inside, and that the mind withdrawn into itself cannot be stormed from outside. Whatever rages around it finds no entry.

Buddhism

Steady awareness is compared to a wise gatekeeper who knows who belongs and who does not. The restless states still come to the gate, but they get no further in.

Tao Te Ching

All things return to their root, and the one who returns to stillness is settled. The surface moves, the root holds.
