Romans 10:20 Meaning Isaiah Is Very Bold and Says

Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who didn’t seek me. I was revealed to those who didn’t ask for me.”

What does Romans 10:20 mean?

Seeking is the ego's last ambition. A man who has failed at money turns to God with the same greed intact, only the object has changed; he is still reaching forward, still absent from where he stands, and the reaching itself is the distance he complains of.

Those who were not looking were simply available. Nothing had to travel toward them from far away; the search had gone quiet, and in that quiet no one was left standing apart to be given anything. Revelation happens in such a gap, never in the effort that precedes it.

Live Romans 10:20 today

  1. Give yourself twenty minutes today with nothing to improve: no app, no book about getting better, no plan. Just be unproductive and awake and see what is already here.
  2. Spend time with someone without wanting anything from them, not advice, not reassurance, not agreement. The visit gets strangely good when nobody is shopping.
  3. When you are stuck on a problem and pushing harder is only tightening it, stand up and walk around the block. The answer tends to arrive once you quit demanding it.

What have I been straining toward that might be standing right here?

The harder you chase the ox, the further it runs. One day you stop, and the ox is standing in the field behind your own house.

Tao Te Ching 48

The way is not reached by adding, by learning more and trying harder. It appears when the striving is set down.

Sufism · Rumi

What you are looking for has been looking out through your eyes the whole time. The seeking was the one thing standing in the way.
