Romans 10:6 Meaning But the Righteousness Which Is of Faith

But the righteousness which is of faith says this, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down);

What does Romans 10:6 mean?

Some questions are forbidden because asking them installs a distance that was never there and then sends a life to close it. Asking how to climb to heaven assumes the distance is real and a man's altitude is the fix, so the mind starts building ladders: harder discipline, cleaner record, more proof.

Some questions are forbidden because asking them installs a distance that was never there and then sends a life to close it.

Asking how to climb to heaven assumes the distance is real and a man's altitude is the fix, so the mind starts building ladders: harder discipline, cleaner record, more proof. Every rung confirms the premise that generated it, and the climbing feels like devotion while it functions as unbelief, because it keeps looking upward for someone who already came down.

Righteousness by faith works by forbidding a question rather than by answering it. Cut that one off and a person stops spending their years assembling evidence that they are worth reaching, and starts from what Christ has already done, which is the only place obedience can begin without exhausting them.

Live Romans 10:6 today

  1. Catch one thing you are doing today mainly to prove you are good enough, the extra hour, the perfect email, the apology no one asked for. Do the honest version instead and leave the proving out.
  2. When someone thanks you or praises you, say thank you and stop there. No deflecting, no listing what you did wrong, just let it land.
  3. Under pressure, when the voice starts counting your failures as reasons you are not worth helping, say out loud that nothing on that list is being voted on right now. Then make the call or send the message anyway.

What ladder have I been building toward something that already came down to me?

Zen · the ox you are riding

A man searches everywhere for the ox while sitting on its back, and the searching is the only thing keeping him from seeing it. The effort is sincere and it is exactly the obstacle.

Hinduism · Ramana Maharshi

A woman hunts the house over for the necklace that is already around her neck, and only the hunting makes it lost. The distance you are trying to cross was created by the search.

Taoism · Tao Te Ching

The way is not gained by piling up effort but by letting go, and striving after it pushes it further off. What is already near cannot be arrived at by travel.
