But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
To put on the Lord Jesus Christ is to wear imagination itself as your new body, clothing yourself in its power and its wisdom until they feel like your own skin. Christ here is not a man who lived once.

MANIFESTATION
To put on the Lord Jesus Christ is to wear imagination itself as your new body, clothing yourself in its power and its wisdom until they feel like your own skin. Christ here is not a man who lived once. He is the creative power in you, and putting him on means assuming the feeling of already being the person you want to be, and moving through the day dressed in that conviction.
The flesh is the body and its senses, the evidence of the eyes and the ears reporting what is. To make no provision for it is to stop feeding the argument of the senses, to stop arranging your life around what the facts insist upon. Two states stand before a person at every moment: the world as it appears, and the world as imagination declares it. Whichever one he puts on and keeps on is the one he lives from.

BUDDHISM
Appamāda: Heedfulness Heedfulness is the care that keeps watch moment by moment. Morning is already close in this passage, and the sleeper who keeps pressing snooze loses the hour he was given; getting dressed is the first thing a person does on rising. Everything that follows rests on that one act of staying awake to where the mind is drifting, since a drowsy man cannot see what he is reaching for.
Buddhānussati: Recollection of the Awakened One Recollection of the Awakened One holds the teacher's presence steadily in mind. Clothing is worn where everyone can see it and where you feel it all day, so putting on the Lord means carrying him at the surface of ordinary hours: how you speak at the table, how you answer the door. A mind that keeps its teacher this close finds it awkward to pick up what the teacher put down.
Anusaya: Underlying tendency Underlying tendency is the sleeping pull that has not yet been pulled up by the root. Flesh here is less the body than the habit lying dormant inside it, a seed in dry ground waiting for one good rain, and the lusts belong to that seed. Because it sleeps rather than dies, it can be counted on to wake, which is why the counsel concerns supply lines instead of one decisive win.
Indriyasaṃvara: Guarding the sense doors Guarding the sense doors is care at eye, ear, and the rest. Provision gets made right at the gate: the second look, the saved link, the walk down that particular street. A house is robbed through the door someone left unlocked, so shut it early and the appetite arrives to find nothing laid out for it.
Āhāra: Nutriment Nutriment is whatever feeds a state and keeps it alive. Making no provision is a kitchen matter, since you can wrestle a craving all evening or you can keep the cupboard bare, and the second costs far less. Lusts live on what was stocked for them hours before they showed up, so the work happens at the shop rather than at the table.

SUFISM
Libās al-taqwā: the garment of guarding yourself against wrong The Quran calls this care the best clothing a person can wear. Giving something up leaves an empty place, and the old habit comes back to fill it fast. Someone who puts on new conduct instead has that place covered, so the pull arrives and finds nothing waiting for it.
If you love God, follow me, and God will love you: love shows itself as imitation A line of the Quran ties loving God to following the one he sent. Rules a person sets for themselves tend to break within a week, while the pull of someone they love keeps working on its own. People pick up the manner of anyone they admire and spend time with: how they speak, what they refuse, how they treat strangers.
Al-nafs al-ammāra: the self that keeps ordering you toward harm The Quran names an inner side that pushes a person toward what damages them. The awkward part is that it speaks in your own voice and brings reasons that sound sensible at the time. Once someone can tell that voice apart from themselves, its suggestions lose their authority and become one more thing passing through.
Warāʿ: staying clear of whatever could lead you wrong Sufi teachers place this care a step beyond simply avoiding what is forbidden. Most people lose at the last moment, standing in front of the thing with the whole evening already arranged around it. Distance bought early, a door left shut, an hour filled, does the work that self-control cannot manage once the moment arrives.
Returning from the lesser struggle to the greater struggle: the fight with yourself is the long one Coming back from a battle, the Prophet is remembered as saying the harder fight was still ahead, the one with himself. Anyone expecting a single decisive push gives up the first time an old craving comes back. Treating it as long work makes a slip ordinary rather than proof of failure, and the effort continues instead of collapsing.

SELF-HELP
The moment of temptation is settled earlier, in the calm hour when you decide what stays within reach.
Willpower loses to inventory. Whatever is kept in the house gets used on the night the state turns, because an appetite cannot beat a person with nothing within reach.
Putting on the Lord Jesus Christ is an identity change, and identity settles logistics: a man who has decided who he is stops arranging comfortable exceptions for a future version of himself. Belief sets the state, the state sets what feels available, and what feels available hardens into the pattern. Leaving the flesh supplied means every settled decision has to be won again at the hour when strength is lowest.
Manifestation lens
Which of the two am I dressed in right now, the facts or the thing I decided?
You are given a part to play, and how you wear it is yours alone. Put on the character you intend to be and let the circumstances say what they like.
Whichever mind you keep feeding is the one that grows. Stop setting a place at the table for the one you do not want.
Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of what you really love. What you lean toward long enough is what you end up wearing.
