Psychoanalysis

What annoys us most in others is usually what we refuse to see in ourselves. A man could not stand a coworker's arrogance, until he admitted the same pride hid in himself. What he pushed away was a part of him he had disowned.

Accepting others is more than politeness. It means taking back the parts of yourself you dumped onto them. Christ accepting everyone stands for the whole self, one that holds even its dark side. Welcoming people as they are is how a split person becomes whole, and that wholeness is what the glory of God means.

Live Romans 15:7 today

  1. Think of the person who irritates you most right now, and finish this sentence honestly: the thing I cannot stand about them shows up in me when I am tired or scared. Sit with it, do not fix it.
  2. Spend time today with the person you have been politely avoiding, the difficult relative, the coworker you find exhausting, and stay curious about them for one real conversation.
  3. When someone criticizes you and the heat rises in your chest, ask yourself whether the uncomfortable part of it is true. Taking back a true piece of yourself hurts less than defending a half.

What trait in other people sets you off fastest, and where does it live in you?
