Romans 4:17 · World English Bible

Romans 4:17 Meaning As It Is Written

As it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations.” This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were.

What does Romans 4:17 mean?

There is a power that gives life to what seems dead and calls forth what does not yet exist. This is not magic but the very nature of consciousness.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

There is a power that gives life to what seems dead and calls forth what does not yet exist. This is not magic but the very nature of consciousness. When you are fully present, no longer lost in the mind's story of lack, you become open to what wants to arise through you.

To believe is not to wish for some distant future. It is to trust the aliveness already here, and out of that trust new forms come into being. What was barren becomes fruitful because you stopped resisting the present and let life move through you.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Abraham, old and childless, was named the father of nations before a single child arrived. That is the whole art of it. The power a person carries speaks of the wanted thing as already done, while the senses still report nothing. It calls what is not yet here by the name it will wear when it comes.

So the dead are quickened. A dead hope is one the outer facts have flatly denied, and it revives the moment a person occupies the wish fulfilled instead of the empty present. To assume the state of the answered prayer, and to speak from it, is to call the unseen into being. The world obeys the state a man dwells in, not the state he can presently measure.

CYBERNETICS

Cybernetics

An old man with no child was handed a new name, father of nations, long before a single grandchild existed. He carried the picture first and let his life grow toward it. The mind that shapes us works this way: it answers the image we hold, not the census of what stands around us today.

Abraham believed in a power that speaks of things not yet here as if they already stand. That is how the success mechanism in a person operates. It aims at the end result held steadily in imagination, and it treats the goal as settled while working to close the distance. A self-image can lie dormant like something dead. Held before the mind long enough, it stirs and begins to draw the outer facts after it.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

Calling a thing that is not yet as though it already is functions as an instruction to the nervous system rather than a description of the world. A name accepted before the facts support it changes what a person tolerates, what they treat as relevant, and what they are willing to begin, and those beginnings are what eventually make the name accurate.

Identity is the strongest force in the personality, which is why a title given in advance outperforms encouragement: a standard handed to a person in the form of a name has to be lived up to, and consistency with an identity runs automatically in a way discipline never does. Keeping the old name costs a person every action only the new one authorizes.

Live Romans 4:17 today

  1. Start one thing today that you are not sure you can finish, a page, a run, a call. Begin it badly and let that be enough.
  2. Say the hopeful thing out loud to someone who is stuck, not as cheerleading, just as a real possibility you are willing to see for them.
  3. When something looks dead at work or at home, a project, a conversation, a habit, drop the verdict for one day and take one small step as though it were still open.

Where have I already decided nothing can grow?

All things come out of what cannot be seen. What is not yet here is already held in the unformed.

A cup that is full can receive nothing. Emptiness is not lack, it is the room where something new can arrive.
