Romans 5:11 Meaning Not Only So

Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

What does Romans 5:11 mean?

There is a joy that does not depend on anything going your way. It is not the passing satisfaction the mind chases and loses, but a gladness that rises from simply being, from your own contact with the source of life.

Ego v. Being

There is a joy that does not depend on anything going your way. It is not the passing satisfaction the mind chases and loses, but a gladness that rises from simply being, from your own contact with the source of life. Most people never taste it, because they are waiting for the next thing to make them happy.

Atonement is at-one-ment, the ending of the felt separation between you and the ground of your being. You do not achieve this. You receive it now, in the only moment there is, the instant the sense of a self standing apart falls quiet. And once that division dissolves, joy is what remains, because there is no longer anyone left outside to feel excluded from life.

Live Romans 5:11 today

  1. Step outside for a minute today and let yourself be glad for no reason, with nothing going especially well. Air, light, your own breathing.
  2. Spend time with someone without needing the time to go a certain way. The enjoyment is in their company, not in how the evening turns out.
  3. On a hard day, when nothing is going your way, look for the small gladness that does not depend on the day, the cup of coffee, the quiet of the drive home.

What am I waiting on to be happy, and is it actually the thing?

Advaita Vedanta

The one looking and the one looked for are not two. Joy arrives when the sense of standing outside life quietly gives way.

Sufism · Rumi

The drop was afraid of the ocean until it fell in. What it lost was only the idea of being separate.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

You are a part of the whole, not a visitor to it. Living as though you belong is its own kind of gladness.
