Romans 5:9 Meaning Much More Then

Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God’s wrath through him.

What does Romans 5:9 mean?

Christ's blood has already set his people right with God, and what remains follows with even greater certainty. He poured it out while they were still his enemies, so the finishing is not in doubt.

Orthodox

Christ's blood has already set his people right with God, and what remains follows with even greater certainty. He poured it out while they were still his enemies, so the finishing is not in doubt.

God's wrath is what his presence feels like to a heart that has refused him. The same love that warms a willing soul scorches a closed one, so being saved from wrath means being changed by Christ until his presence is bearable, then welcome. Saving lies ahead as well as behind, and the Christian life is that long healing worked by him.

  1. Name one thing in you that you still flinch away from God about, and stay with it for a minute without fixing it. Being still in the light is how the flinch slowly goes.
  2. Let someone in close enough to see a part of you that embarrasses you, a partner, a friend, a sponsor. Being known by one person is practice for being known entirely.
  3. When old shame hits you in the middle of a workday, do not argue with it and do not agree with it. Say that this has already been settled, and go back to the email.

Where in you does God's nearness still feel like heat instead of warmth?

The same sun that opens one flower withers another. What burns is not a different fire, it is the one love meeting a closed thing.

Hinduism · Upanishads

What frees the one who has turned toward it binds the one who turns away. The reality is single; the experience depends on the facing.

The strong medicine and the long convalescence are both part of the cure. Healing is not an announcement, it is a slow course you stay with.
