Romans 6:23 Meaning For the Wages of Sin Is Death

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What does Romans 6:23 mean?

The old meaning of sin was simply to miss the point, to live cut off from your own depth and lost in the mind's endless wanting. And what does that unconscious life pay out?

Ego v. Being

The old meaning of sin was simply to miss the point, to live cut off from your own depth and lost in the mind's endless wanting. And what does that unconscious life pay out? A death felt in advance, the anxious dying of a self that must protect a fragile image and senses, somewhere, that it will not last.

Eternal life is not a reward waiting after the body ends. It is a dimension open to you now, the timeless being you enter the moment you step out of compulsive thinking and into presence. It is given freely, not earned, because it is already what you are beneath the noise. Turn from unconsciousness to awareness, and you trade that living death for the life that time cannot touch.

  1. For one hour, want nothing new. No scrolling for the next thing, no cart, no feed, just what is already in front of you, and feel how quickly the wanting quiets when it is not fed.
  2. Tell one person something true and ordinary about your day instead of the polished version. Keeping up the image is exhausting, and dropping it for a minute feels like air.
  3. When a comparison hits, someone else's news, promotion, house, vacation, let it land without arguing with it. The sting fades on its own if you do not build a case around it.

What are you chasing that you already have?

Buddhism · the Four Noble Truths

The ache in a life comes from endless wanting and clinging. When the grasping loosens, what is left is not a reward you earned, it is just peace that was blocked.

Tao Te Ching 44

Knowing when you have enough keeps you from losing yourself. Chasing more wears a person down long before the end comes.

Sufism · Rumi

You are searching the whole world for a treasure that is buried in the ground under your feet. The seeking itself is what keeps you from it.
