Ego v. Being

There is a knowing in you that is pure and beyond the personal, and yet you feel bound, driven, compelled to do what some deeper part of you does not truly want. This is the condition of identification with form.

When you take yourself to be only the body, only the reactive mind, you become enslaved to its compulsions. To be sold under sin means you have handed your freedom to unconsciousness. You are not evil. You are simply asleep, mistaking the conditioned self for who you are, and from that mistake all compulsion follows.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

2 natures are set against each other inside one person: the spiritual law, which is the higher order of being that governs from within, and the carnal self, the fleshly consciousness that has traded itself away to the body's appetites. To be sold under sin is to have handed the will over to the lower nature until it owns the man like a bought servant. The awakened principle knows the law is spiritual, yet finds itself housed in a nature still bound to matter and its cravings. The division a person feels is this: a spirit that perceives the higher order lodged in a flesh not yet freed to obey it.

  1. Watch one habit you keep meaning to change, the late scroll, the second drink, the slammed door of a reply, without judging yourself for it. Seeing it clearly does more than scolding yourself ever has.
  2. When you snap at someone you love, say sorry simply and skip the long self-criticism. You were asleep for a second, not evil, and the apology is enough.
  3. When you feel yourself pulled to react, in traffic, in a thread, in a tense call, say to yourself that this is a pull, not a decision. Naming it that way loosens it a little.

What pulls you around that you have been treating as your own character?

Appetite and anger pull a person along like a current, even when they see clearly where it leads. The problem is not wickedness, it is being carried.

As rain gets into a poorly roofed house, craving gets into an unguarded mind. Nothing is wrong with the house, it simply has gaps.
