EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Beneath the noise of the mind there is an inner being that recognizes truth and delights in it. This is not the surface self with its opinions and resistances. It is the deeper awareness you already are.

When you become still and turn inward, you feel a quiet joy in what is good and true, a delight that needs no reason. That gladness is the sign you have touched your own depth, and it arises the moment you stop living in your thoughts and rest in the awareness beneath them.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

There are 2 selves in one person, and the delight belongs to the inward spiritual man, who recognizes the higher law and agrees with it as its own. This is the self that leans toward the divine order and knows it to be right.

Yet the agreement does not end the war. That inward man is still overpowered by the carnal mind planted in the flesh, which fights against the very law the deeper self loves. The recognition is real and the pull upward is real, but so is the mind that drags the other way, and the 2 are not yet reconciled.

Inward man: the deeper spiritual self that recognizes the higher law and turns toward it, still hemmed in by the warring flesh.

Live Romans 7:22 today

  1. Sit somewhere quiet for three minutes today with no phone and no plan. Not to achieve stillness, just to find out what is already glad in you when nothing is being added.
  2. Tell one person about something true or beautiful you love, with no argument attached. Watch how the gladness grows in the telling.
  3. In the middle of a rushed day, in the elevator, at a red light, waiting for a file to upload, take one breath and feel that you are here. The quiet pleasure in that is not a reward for anything.

When did you last feel glad for no reason, and what were you doing right before it?

Zhuangzi

There is a joy that does not come from getting anything. It is what is left when you stop chasing, and it feels like coming home to something you never left.

Sufism · Rumi

The reed flute sounds beautiful because it was hollowed out. The ache and the gladness in it come from the same opening.

Upanishads

Deep in the heart there is a space smaller than small and larger than the sky. What you most want is already sitting there, waiting to be recognized.
