Romans 7:25 Meaning I Thank God Through Jesus Christ

I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, sin’s law.

What does Romans 7:25 mean?

A person is worked by 2 laws at once, the mind pulled upward to one order and the flesh dragged downward by another. The mind is the higher awareness that serves the law of God, the reasoning spirit aligned with the source.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

A person is worked by 2 laws at once, the mind pulled upward to one order and the flesh dragged downward by another. The mind is the higher awareness that serves the law of God, the reasoning spirit aligned with the source. The flesh is the body with its appetites, obeying the law of sin, which is simply the pull of matter toward its own gravity.

Between them a person lives divided, one nature reaching for the light while the other answers the ground. The awakening does not erase the flesh but sees the 2 clearly, the served law above and the driving law below, and knows which one the real self stands in.

The mind: the higher awareness within a person, the reasoning spirit that aligns with the law of the source. The flesh: the body with its appetites, held by the law of sin, the downward pull of matter toward its own gravity.

Live Romans 7:25 today

  1. When a craving arrives today, food, phone, another episode, say to yourself that this is the body asking, not me deciding. Then answer it freely either way.
  2. With someone whose appetites annoy you, their eating, their spending, their scrolling, remember that you are carrying the same split. Let that soften what you were going to say.
  3. Under stress, when you are tired and short tempered and the body is clearly driving, be grateful you can still tell. Name which part is talking, then choose your next sentence from the other part.

Right now, which of the two in me is doing the talking?

The same truth in other traditions

Bhagavad Gita

Two paths run through one person, one toward the light and one toward the senses, and both are real for as long as you live in a body. Clear sight of the two is the start of freedom.

Tao Te Ching

The five colors blind the eye and the five flavors dull the mouth. The one who keeps to the center is fed by what the chasing never gives.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

You are a mind carrying a body around. Give the body what it needs, give it no authority, and know at every moment which of the two is speaking.
