Romans 8:2 · World English Bible
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.
There are two ways of living. One is bound to the compulsive mind, driven by fear and craving, endlessly repeating its old patterns of suffering.

EGO & BEING
There are two ways of living. One is bound to the compulsive mind, driven by fear and craving, endlessly repeating its old patterns of suffering. This is life ruled by the conditioned self, and it always ends in the same heaviness.
The other is the aliveness you feel when awareness awakens in you and you are no longer lost in thought. In that awakening a new principle takes over, one that is not driven but simply present. You are freed from the old compulsion, not by fighting it, but because presence dissolves the very self that was trapped in it.

AWARENESS
The mechanical round of habit, reaction and remorse operates exactly like a law, because a machine cannot behave otherwise. Whatever the past recorded, the mind replays, and the man who resolves to change it is only the same recording resolving.
Freedom does not come from fighting the machine, since the fight feeds it and keeps a fighter in business. Watch anger instead of suppressing it or spending it, and the old law loses its grip the way darkness gives way when a lamp is carried into the room, with no struggle anywhere. Life moves by that quality of awareness, never by rules.
Ego v. Being lens
What have you been fighting that might loosen if you simply stayed awake inside it?
Water does not strain, and nothing is stronger over time. It overcomes by yielding, which is a different force than effort.
Freedom from craving does not come by crushing the craving. It comes from seeing clearly how it works, and the seeing is what lets it go.
Struggling in the mud makes more mud. Standing still is what lets the water clear.
