Romans 8:28 · World English Bible
We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.
To love God is to stay loyal to the highest idea a man can hold of himself and his life. When awareness stays fixed on that chosen good, every event bends toward it, because outer conditions take their shape from the inner state a person keeps.

MANIFESTATION
To love God is to stay loyal to the highest idea a man can hold of himself and his life. When awareness stays fixed on that chosen good, every event bends toward it, because outer conditions take their shape from the inner state a person keeps. For such a man, nothing is accidental.
Events do not sort themselves into good and bad on their own. They are sorted by the state through which a man meets them. Held in a settled conviction of the wished-for end, even setbacks turn into steps along the road. The purpose spoken of is the desire a person has claimed as already his. Loyalty to that inner picture makes the whole of life serve it.

ESOTERIC
Every cause a person once planted, buried out of sight in the subconscious, surfaces later as its exact effect, and the whole machinery grinds toward one balanced end. For the awareness turned toward the Source within, the God-center at the crown rather than the many gods scattered outward through the senses, these returning effects fall together into good. It is the balanced heart of the old Egyptian judgment, weighed against the feather and found even. Nothing in such a life is loose or wasted: what was sown in the depths comes back on time and settles into its right place, and the one who loves the inner Source reads even the hard returns as part of a single working order.
God: the Source within, the center at the crown that a person turns toward rather than the many powers scattered outward through the senses

BUDDHISM
Paṭicca-samuppāda: Dependent Origination Everything stands by leaning on everything else. The loss, the delay, and the turn you never chose are like stones in an arch, each pressing on the next so that together they carry a span none could hold alone. That is how all things work together: no piece of your life sits there as a loose or wasted stone. Read the whole arch and even the block you once cursed is bearing its honest share of the weight.
Kamma: Action and its fruit Every deed is a seed that ripens in its own season. When the good finally comes, it stands up as the harvest of what was planted, and every circumstance around it, sun and storm alike, worked to lift that fruit out of the ground. Even a bitter year rots down into compost and quietly feeds the same growing thing.
Yoniso manasikāra: Wise attention The good ripens for those who meet each thing at its root. Hand the same hard day to wise attention and it turns into a whetstone, and patience comes away sharper for the grinding. All things work together for good to them because the good turns on how the heart receives what comes. Even a blow you never wanted has iron in it worth keeping.
Saddhā: Trusting confidence To love here is to lean your whole weight on what holds, the way you step onto a bridge and let it carry you without a second thought. "And we know" is the sound of that confidence gone quiet and sure, a mind at rest because the thing it rests on is steady. Those who love God are the ones who have set their weight down and kept walking.
Adhiṭṭhāna: Resolute determination Purpose is not a plan filed away in heaven but a steady aim the heart stands on, a compass kept true through every detour. To be called according to purpose is to walk a road that bends and doubles back yet never loses its direction. The resolve underneath is what makes scattered, ordinary days all point one way.

SELF-HELP
Whoever settles in advance that everything entering their life is being put to work never waits for facts to rescue them.
A meaning assigned ahead of the event meets the next blow at the door. Pain that arrives already logged as material drops a person into a resourceful state while the shock is fresh, a resourceful state moves, and those movements compound into a life that looks from outside like unusual luck.
Loving God is what keeps this from being wishful thinking, since it hands authorship of the pattern to a purpose running longer than any single setback. Without that, every hardship gets filed as evidence against the person, and after enough filings they stop attempting anything that could hurt.
Manifestation lens
What am I calling a setback that might be a step, if I knew where I was going?
The obstacle in the road becomes the road. What blocks the way turns into the way forward for a mind set on its purpose.
The old man at the frontier loses his horse and will not call it bad luck, and when it returns with others he will not call it good. He waits, because the meaning of an event depends on where it is going.
Treat every arrival as a guest, even grief, which sweeps the house empty. What it clears out may be making room for something you would not have had otherwise.
