Ruth 2:3 Meaning She Went

She went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech.

What does Ruth 2:3 mean?

Chance only ever selects from among the people who were already out doing the work. Decide to move while nothing is promised, and the decision sets a state, the state carries the body to a place, and the place is where the unarranged thing can reach you.

Chance only ever selects from among the people who were already out doing the work.

Decide to move while nothing is promised, and the decision sets a state, the state carries the body to a place, and the place is where the unarranged thing can reach you. A widow foreign enough to be turned away at any row took the one action available to her, and the labour, not the luck, put her inside the boundaries of a kinsman's land.

Meaning is the hinge: gleaning read as humiliation keeps a person at home, and gleaning read as the first day of a rebuilt life gets her out the gate at dawn. Two people in the same poverty end in different destinies because of the emotion each brings to identical facts. Waiting for certainty costs a person the field that had their name on it, harvested by someone else while they were still deciding.

Live Ruth 2:3 today

  1. Do the unimpressive first step today without knowing where it leads, the application, the walk, the first paragraph, and go before you feel qualified to go.
  2. Instead of waiting to be invited, show up where the people are, reply in the thread, go to the thing, sit with the group at lunch, because nothing unplanned and good can reach you at home.
  3. When something feels beneath you, the entry-level task, the awkward ask, the grocery line, call it the first day of the new thing rather than proof of how far you have fallen, and keep going.

What am I still waiting for permission to start?

Seneca said no wind is favorable to the one who has no harbor in mind, so motion with a direction is what lets a chance wind count for anything.

A journey of a thousand miles begins beneath your feet, and the whole of it is lost by standing still at the edge of the first step.

The same rain falls on every plant, but what grows depends on the soil, so the circumstance is shared and the meaning brought to it is not.
