Song of Solomon 2:7 Meaning I Adjure You

I adjure you, daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, or by the hinds of the field, that you not stir up, nor awaken love, until it so desires.

What does Song of Solomon 2:7 mean?

A charge is laid on the tender desires of the spirit not to force the sacred union before its hour, the godly longings that reach toward the divine and must not seize what only ripens in its own time. These desires are named alongside the wild creatures of the field because both carry the same nature, the aspiration of the spirit and the life forming in hidden depths, unseen and not to be dragged into the open by haste.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

A charge is laid on the tender desires of the spirit not to force the sacred union before its hour, the godly longings that reach toward the divine and must not seize what only ripens in its own time. These desires are named alongside the wild creatures of the field because both carry the same nature, the aspiration of the spirit and the life forming in hidden depths, unseen and not to be dragged into the open by haste. The love that must not be stirred is the meeting of soul and spirit that comes only when it is ready, and the yearning heart is told to wait rather than wrench it awake. What is real here unfolds by its own readiness.

Daughters of Jerusalem: the tender godly desires of the spirit that seek God and reach toward the sacred union Roes and hinds of the field: the aspiration of the spirit and the life forming in hidden depths, the unseen divine birth that must not be forced into the open

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

Love cannot be produced by wanting it. It arrives the way sleep arrives, on its own, to someone who has stopped arranging the conditions, and every effort to hurry it yields a performance instead, which is why so much of what passes between people is rehearsed.

She speaks from inside it, resting, and that is the only place the difference can be felt. The mind manufactures excitement and calls it love, and the counterfeit convinces until the real thing has been tasted once. Then waiting becomes possible, not as patience gritted through but as a readiness with no hand on the door.

Live Song of Solomon 2:7 today

  1. There is something you have been pushing, a decision, a reply, a feeling you want resolved. Leave it alone for today and let it keep forming where you cannot see it.
  2. When someone close to you is clearly working something out, resist the urge to speed them up with advice. Ask one question and then let the silence do the rest of the work.
  3. When the pressure to answer right now hits, write the message and let it sit unsent for an hour. Most of what urgency demands is not actually due yet.

What am I tugging at that would open on its own if I stopped?

Tao Te Ching 64

Those who force a thing ruin it, and those who grasp at it lose it. What grows is tended, never hurried.

Zen saying

Sitting quietly, spring comes and the grass grows by itself. Your wanting it faster adds nothing to the growing.

Mencius

The farmer who tugged at his young plants to help them grow found them withered by evening. Care and impatience look alike and do opposite things.
