Song of Solomon 5:1 Meaning I Have Come Into My Garden

I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride. I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, friends! Drink, yes, drink abundantly, beloved.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The garden was never far off. Fullness was here the whole time, waiting under the noise of wanting. When a person finally arrives in this moment, the arriving feels like coming home to a place they somehow already owned. Myrrh, honey, wine: the ordinary richness of being alive, tasted at last because attention has stopped racing ahead of it.

And fullness does not hoard. The one who has drunk deeply turns and says, eat, drink abundantly. What overflows in a person who is finally at rest is not effort but welcome. Peace, once found within, spills toward everyone nearby, because it was never a private thing to begin with.

SUFISM

Sufism

A heart that hoards its little joys, afraid there will not be enough, misses the whole feast. What frees it is to spend what has been given: the one who has tasted sweetness sets the table for others and calls them to eat, to drink deeply, to take more than they came for.

The garden was made to be entered. The Beloved who calls the friends to the table is also the sweetness on it, the spice, the honey, the wine, poured out and enjoyed as one gift given from one hand. Every good thing here is the same generosity wearing a different taste.

Live Song of Solomon 5:1 today

  1. Eat one thing today with your phone face down and out of reach. Taste the coffee, the sandwich, the apple, and let that be the whole event for two minutes.
  2. When someone you live or work with is having a good day, say so out loud and let it be enough. No advice, no tally of your own week, just gladness that has room for theirs.
  3. In the middle of a packed afternoon, when the messages are stacking up, stop and feel your feet on the floor for three breaths. The fullness you are rushing toward is already here, and three breaths is enough to remember that.

What is already in front of me that I keep saving for later?

Tao Te Ching

The sage does not store up treasure, yet gives without running dry. What fills a person who wants nothing keeps spilling over to everyone around.

Zen · Hakuin

We are like someone standing in water crying out from thirst. The garden is underfoot the whole time we search for it.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Stop chasing the life you think you lack and look at what is already set before you. The present hour holds everything you actually need.
