SUFISM

Sufism

She opened, and He was gone, and the empty doorway is its own hard teacher. The little hesitation while comfort held her had cost her the meeting. This is the wound of the postponed yes, the heart that means to answer God but waits one moment too long.

The cure is quicker feet next time, and the search itself is already part of the finding. Her heart went out at His voice, and that pull came from somewhere. Even in the absence He is the one drawing her through the empty streets, present as the very longing that will not let her rest.

Live Song of Solomon 5:6 today

  1. Do today the small thing you have moved to tomorrow four times, the call, the apology, the appointment. The delay is not neutral; it is where the chance keeps going.
  2. When someone reaches out and part of you says you will answer later when you have more to say, answer now with less. Later is how people slip out of each other's lives.
  3. When you feel the pull to say something true in a meeting and the moment is passing, say it slightly before you are ready. The door closes while you are still composing.

What yes have you meant to give, and how long have you been meaning it?

The same truth in other traditions

Stoicism · Seneca

He says we keep postponing life as if we had endless time, and the postponing is how the time goes. The hesitation costs more than the thing we were avoiding.

Zen

A teacher asks why a student waits for a better moment to begin, since every moment waited for arrives already spent. There is no later with your name on it.

Bhagavad Gita 2

Krishna says no effort on this path is ever lost and none of it goes backward. The searching counts toward the finding.
