The whole Christian life leans forward toward one thing, life with God that never ends. This hope is not wishful thinking; it stands on the character of God himself, who cannot lie. If a promise from a truthful friend can steady us, how much more a promise from the One who is truth and made this pledge before time even began.

That is the ground a believer stands on. Eternal life was in God's heart for you before the first star was lit, and he does not go back on his word. When the present feels uncertain, you can rest your weight on this, because the One who promised your future has never once broken faith.

Live Titus 1:2 today

  1. Pick one worry that has been circling in your head today, the kind that wakes you at 3 a.m., and say out loud the one thing you are sure of underneath it. Then put the phone face down and let that be enough for ten minutes.
  2. Keep your word on something small with one person today, a text you said you would send, a time you said you would be there. Being someone whose promises hold is how another person learns what a reliable promise feels like.
  3. When a day goes sideways, a meeting that turns on you, traffic that makes you late, an email you did not want, let your first thought be the long view rather than the next twenty minutes. The thing that matters most about your life is not up for a vote today.

What have I been resting my weight on, and will it hold?

Judaism · Pirkei Avot

The sages said the one who gives the promise is faithful to pay the wage, so a person can work in the dark without worrying whether the reward is real.
