Zechariah 13:9 Meaning I Will Bring the Third Part Into

I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will test them like gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will hear them. I will say, ‘It is my people;’ and they will say, ‘Yahweh is my God.’

What does Zechariah 13:9 mean?

The fire that tests a person is not the end of the story. Silver and gold are put through heat not to be ruined but to come out pure, and something similar happens in a life.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

The fire that tests a person is not the end of the story. Silver and gold are put through heat not to be ruined but to come out pure, and something similar happens in a life. What burns away is only the impurity, and what remains is genuine.

On the far side of that testing something new becomes possible. The person who has been through the fire calls out and, for the first time, feels truly answered. Having lost the false parts, he can finally meet the deeper ground of himself honestly, each one recognizing the other. The hardship was never punishment. It cleared away everything in the way, so that a real relationship between a person and their own depths could begin.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

What a person calls on while the heat is still on them is what forges the identity they carry out.

The same temperature reads as destruction or as separation, and which one a person holds is what decides whether they go quiet in the fire or call out of it. Destruction produces collapse, and collapse ends the exchange before it starts; separation of metal from waste produces the one action the heat was for, and calling on the name is what gets heard.

Being heard settles it in both directions, a people claimed and a God claimed back, and an identity settled at that temperature carries weight later that a comfortable one never will. A person who reads their own furnace as abandonment goes quiet in it, and comes out the other side carrying the same beliefs that went in, only harder.

Live Zechariah 13:9 today

  1. Think of the hardest stretch you have been through and name one thing it burned off you, some pretense or need for approval you no longer carry. Say what it gave you, not only what it cost.
  2. If someone you know is in the middle of a bad patch, text them today without trying to fix it or explain the lesson. Just let them know you are there while it burns.
  3. When today squeezes you and something you usually perform falls away, let it go instead of grabbing it back. What is still standing when you have no energy to pretend is the real part of you.

What did the fire take from you that you are glad, now, not to be carrying?
