Zechariah 2:8 Meaning For Yahweh of Armies Says

For Yahweh of Armies says: ‘For honor he has sent me to the nations which plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.

What does Zechariah 2:8 mean?

The apple of the eye is the pupil, and looking into another's eye you see yourself reflected small within it, a little figure standing inside the other. That tiny reflected man is what God sees when he looks into you: himself, made small, a pattern of his own being buried in a human form and waiting to be enlarged.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The apple of the eye is the pupil, and looking into another's eye you see yourself reflected small within it, a little figure standing inside the other. That tiny reflected man is what God sees when he looks into you: himself, made small, a pattern of his own being buried in a human form and waiting to be enlarged. You are not separate from him; you are his own image looking back at him from within his creature.

So to touch you is to touch his very eye, the most guarded and tender part, because you are himself seen in miniature. The nations that spoiled you are the outer conditions that seemed to wound and scatter the self. Yet the being reflected in you cannot finally be harmed, for he is God's own likeness. What looks like a small helpless self inside you is the whole of God, kept and growing there.

  1. Stand at the mirror for a moment without judging the face. Just let yourself be looked at kindly, by yourself.
  2. In one conversation today, actually look at the person's eyes long enough to see your own small reflection there. Let that change how gently you speak.
  3. When someone snaps at you or a message lands hard, remind yourself that the part of you they cannot reach is untouched. Answer from there, not from the sting.

What in me has never once been damaged by anything that happened?

Chandogya Upanishad

The deepest self in you is the same reality that holds the whole world. Smaller than a grain, larger than the sky, and it is you.

Zen

Look closely and the one looking turns out to be what you were searching for. The eye cannot find itself by searching outward.

Sufism

The lover gazes into the beloved and sees his own face returned. What touches you, touches the one you are reflected in.
