Zechariah 3:1 Meaning He Showed Me Joshua the High Priest

He showed me Joshua the high priest standing before Yahweh’s angel, and Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary.

What does Zechariah 3:1 mean?

Joshua the high priest is the ruling spiritual faculty in a person, the part that stands at the altar of the inner temple and mediates between the higher self and the body. To stand before the angel of the Lord is to be brought into the presence of the higher awareness for judgment, the inner priest examined by the light above him.

Joshua the high priest is the ruling spiritual faculty in a person, the part that stands at the altar of the inner temple and mediates between the higher self and the body. To stand before the angel of the Lord is to be brought into the presence of the higher awareness for judgment, the inner priest examined by the light above him. Satan at the right hand is the adversary within, the accusing and resisting power of the lower nature that rises at the very side of the priest to oppose his ascent, the opposition that meets every faculty as it tries to draw near the spirit.

The scene sets the higher and lower forces of one person face to face, the priestly self reaching toward the light while the accuser stands at its side to hold it back.

Joshua the high priest: the ruling spiritual faculty within, the inner priest who mediates between the higher self and the body Angel: the higher awareness before which the inner priest is brought and examined Satan: the adversary and accuser of the lower nature that rises to resist the self's ascent Right hand: the very side of the self, the place of strength where the opposing power takes its stand

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

In the vision the priest stands ready to serve, and right beside him stands his accuser, the figure whose whole role is to oppose and condemn him. This pairing is not an accident of the dream. Wherever a person tries to stand upright and good, an inner opponent appears at their shoulder.

This accusing figure is the part of ourselves we deny, the dark twin that carries everything we refuse to be. It cannot simply be banished. The priest becomes whole not by pretending the accuser is absent, but by standing in its presence and answering it honestly.

  1. When the voice in your head says you are a fraud and should not bother, name it as a voice rather than a verdict. You can hear an accusation without agreeing to it.
  2. Tell one person you trust about the thing you are most ashamed of carrying. Saying it aloud to someone kind takes most of the accuser's power away.
  3. When you are about to do something good and hard, a difficult conversation, a first attempt, and the resistance spikes, treat that spike as a sign you are facing the right direction. Go anyway, nerves and all.

Whose voice is it, really, when you tell yourself you are not fit for the thing you are about to do?
