Zechariah 3:8 Meaning Hear Now

Hear now, Joshua the high priest, you and your fellows who sit before you; for they are men who are a sign: for, behold, I will bring out my servant, the Branch.

What does Zechariah 3:8 mean?

The priest within is the ruling faculty of the mind, and the promise made to him is that a new growth will rise out of the old root. The Branch is the shoot of awakened consciousness that springs from the spine, the tree of the body, once its lower ground has been cleansed.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The priest within is the ruling faculty of the mind, and the promise made to him is that a new growth will rise out of the old root. The Branch is the shoot of awakened consciousness that springs from the spine, the tree of the body, once its lower ground has been cleansed. It grows upward from the base toward the crown as a single living stem.

Joshua bears the same name as Jesus, the saving power set at the head of the inner temple. What is brought forth is not a person outside but the sprouting of the higher self from within the man himself.

The BRANCH: the shoot of risen consciousness that grows up the spine from the cleansed root toward the crown. Joshua the high priest: the ruling faculty of the mind presiding over the body's inner temple, bearing the saving name.

Live Zechariah 3:8 today

  1. Do one small honest thing today in the area of your life you most want to clean up. New growth needs cleared ground, and nobody else can clear yours.
  2. Encourage someone in a change they have barely started, before there is anything to show for it. Say you can see it beginning. People grow toward the person who saw the shoot first.
  3. When you are tempted to wait for the right job, the right partner, the right conditions to become who you want to be, start from where you are instead. What rises in you will come up out of this ground, not a better one.

What is already starting to grow in you that you keep dismissing because it is still small?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen

The lotus does not rise from clean water. It comes up out of the mud, and the mud is not a flaw in the story, it is the beginning of it.

Taoism

The great tree grows from a seed you could hold between two fingers. Nothing is added from outside, it only unfolds what was already packed in.

Hinduism · kundalini

A coiled energy rests at the base of the spine and, once the ground is cleared, rises through the body toward the crown. The awakening is a growth upward from within, not a gift handed in.
