Zechariah 4:2 Meaning He Said to Me

He said to me, “What do you see?” I said, “I have seen, and behold, a lamp stand all of gold, with its bowl on the top of it, and its seven lamps on it; there are seven pipes to each of the lamps, which are on the top of it;

What does Zechariah 4:2 mean?

The golden lampstand is the human spine crowned with light, the column of pure spirit standing upright in the body, and the bowl at its top is the vessel of the head where the oil of consciousness is held. The number 7 governs the whole vision, for the 7 lamps are the 7 centers ranged along that column, each a station of awakening light, and the 7 pipes are the channels that carry the living current from the reservoir above down into every one of them.

Gold marks it all as the incorruptible substance of spirit rather than the base metal of the flesh.

One source feeds many flames through hidden conduits, the single oil above distributed to each burning point below. The whole standing man is a lamp fed from within, one supply of inner light flowing up the spine and out to 7 waiting centers.

Live Zechariah 4:2 today

  1. Once today, sit or stand with your back straight and breathe slowly for two minutes, and feel the line from your tailbone to the top of your head. Not fixing your posture for looks, just feeling the column you are built around.
  2. When you are with someone, pay attention to what you are running on. If you are tired and snapping, say so plainly instead of pretending the lamp is full.
  3. Before a meeting or a hard phone call, take three breaths and check the source rather than the symptoms. Low oil shows up as impatience long before it shows up as a thought.

What am I actually running on today, and when did I last refill it?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism · Yoga tradition

The body is described as a central channel running up the spine with energy centers ranged along it, each one a station the same life force passes through. One current, many places where it shows up as light.

Taoism · Inner alchemy

The Taoist adepts spoke of a reservoir of vital energy that rises through the body's central line and feeds every part. Tend the source and the whole system stays bright.

Sufism

Al-Ghazali compared the heart to a lamp and the divine to the oil: the flame looks like yours, but nothing in you burns on its own supply.
