Zechariah 8:3 Meaning Yahweh Says

Yahweh says: “I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the middle of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called ‘The City of Truth;’ and the mountain of Yahweh of Armies, ‘The Holy Mountain.’ ”

What does Zechariah 8:3 mean?

The promise sounds distant, spoken to a people long scattered, yet it names something that happens close to home. Presence returns and dwells in the very center of a life, not off at its edges.

Ego v. Being

The promise sounds distant, spoken to a people long scattered, yet it names something that happens close to home. Presence returns and dwells in the very center of a life, not off at its edges. What was empty at the middle fills again.

When awareness settles into the heart of a person, that person stops living as a rumor of themselves. The mind quiets, and the noise that passed for a self grows still. Then the whole of you is called by a truer name, and the ground you stand on feels set apart. A city of truth is simply a person no longer at war with what is here.

Live Zechariah 8:3 today

  1. Sometime today, sit in one chair with no screen for three minutes and let your attention come back from everywhere it has wandered. You are not trying to get anything, just arriving where you already are.
  2. Next time you are with someone, put your phone face down and out of reach and be fully in that one room with them. Let them have all of you instead of the version of you that is half elsewhere.
  3. In a stressful stretch of the day, stop and feel your feet on the floor and the breath going in and out. One moment of being here is enough to break the spell of the noise.

What is at the center of my day right now, and what would it feel like if something quieter lived there instead?

Hinduism · Chandogya Upanishad

The vast reality people search for in the sky is also here, smaller than small, in the space within the heart. Seek it where you actually are.

Zen · Dogen

You do not travel to enlightenment and bring it home. You sit down where you are, stop running, and find you were never anywhere else.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

People go off looking for quiet in the countryside or by the sea, when they could withdraw into themselves at any hour. Nowhere is calmer than your own inner life.
