1 Kings 18:38 · World English Bible
Then Yahweh’s fire fell, and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
The fire that falls is the descent of pure spirit into a person, the electric energy that answers when the inner self is fully offered, and it burns clean through every level of the being at once. It takes the sacrifice, the surrendered lower self, then the wood, the fibrous structure of the physical frame, then the stones, the hardened fixed beliefs, then the dust, the sense of being only earth.

ESOTERIC
The fire that falls is the descent of pure spirit into a person, the electric energy that answers when the inner self is fully offered, and it burns clean through every level of the being at once. It takes the sacrifice, the surrendered lower self, then the wood, the fibrous structure of the physical frame, then the stones, the hardened fixed beliefs, then the dust, the sense of being only earth. Nothing coarse is left standing when the living current comes down.
Even the water in the trench is drunk up, the last pooled emotion and doubt lying in the low channel of the body, so that spirit consumes not only what is solid but what is fluid and hidden. When the fire of the LORD truly falls, the whole man is taken up into it, and only the animating flame remains.
Fire of the LORD: the descending current of pure spirit, the electric energy that answers full surrender Wood: the fibrous, structural material of the physical body Stones: the hardened, fixed beliefs a person has set in place Dust: the sense of being nothing but earth and matter Water in the trench: the pooled emotion and doubt lying in the low channels of the body

What in you is so fixed that you would rather it never be questioned?
He spoke of the fire that burns away everything but the beloved. What is left after that burning is not less of you but the only part that was ever real.
The great doubt has to consume every answer you were holding, including the clever ones, before anything true can speak. Nothing you were standing on survives it.
The sharp edge of the teaching cuts through body, breath, mind and what you took yourself to be, until only the witness remains and nothing else is needed.
