1 Samuel 12:24 Meaning Only Fear Yahweh

Only fear Yahweh, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.

What does 1 Samuel 12:24 mean?

To remember the great things already done is to step out of the mind's hunger for the next thing. So much suffering comes from a person overlooking the life they have been given while chasing the life they imagine.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

To remember the great things already done is to step out of the mind's hunger for the next thing. So much suffering comes from a person overlooking the life they have been given while chasing the life they imagine. Attention slides forward and never rests where it stands.

The reverence asked for here carries no dread. Call it awe, the awake wonder that opens in someone who stops taking their own existence for granted. When a person clearly sees what has been given, the reaching quiets, and serving from a whole heart simply pours out of gratitude that has finally paid attention.

SUFISM

Sufism

A heart forgets fast, and forgetting is the quiet fault here. Blessings arrive, get used, and vanish from memory as though they were owed, and the ungrateful heart grows dull, unable to see the hand that keeps feeding it. The call to consider is the cure: to sit and actually count the great things done, until the seeing wakes up again.

To serve in truth means the outside act carries an inside that means it. And the whole reason offered is presence, the One who has already done so much still here, so that remembrance is not looking back at a gift but recognizing the Giver standing close.

Live 1 Samuel 12:24 today

  1. Before you open your phone in the morning, sit still for a minute and name three things that are already here. The bed, the quiet, whoever is asleep down the hall.
  2. Tell one person something good they did for you that you never mentioned at the time. Not a thank you in passing, an actual sentence about what it meant.
  3. When the day turns stressful and your mind starts reaching for what has to happen next, stop and look around the room you are standing in. Say to yourself, quietly, this much I already have.

What in your life have you stopped seeing because it has been there so long?

Do not spend your life wishing for what you do not have. Think instead of what you already hold, and how much you would want it back if it were taken.
