2 Corinthians 5:16 Meaning Therefore We Know No One After

Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know him so no more.

What does 2 Corinthians 5:16 mean?

The mind knows a person by the outer shell: the face, the past, the labels it has stuck on them. To know someone after the flesh is to freeze them into that thin picture and call it the whole of who they are.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The mind knows a person by the outer shell: the face, the past, the labels it has stuck on them. To know someone after the flesh is to freeze them into that thin picture and call it the whole of who they are.

A quieter seeing waits underneath. When a person meets another without the running commentary of thought, the same aliveness that hums inside them is felt in the other. The fixed portrait loosens its hold. Knowing him no longer after the flesh means the living presence is met directly, and no outer description can hold it.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

To know a man after the flesh is to judge him by the surface, the record, the way he looks and behaves today. That reading fixes him in place and hands back exactly what was expected. Paul lays that habit down. He has learned to see the imaginal self behind the appearance, the state a person could occupy rather than the one he wears.

Even Christ is no longer known by the flesh. The figure once pictured as a man at a distance is now understood as the creative power within, the imagination that shapes a life from the inside. To stop knowing after the flesh is to stop letting present facts have the last word. A person met in the state of his fulfilled wish is already becoming that. The self behind the face is the door through which every change arrives.

Live 2 Corinthians 5:16 today

  1. Think of one person you have filed away as difficult, and for today drop the file. Approach the next conversation as if you were meeting them for the first time.
  2. At dinner tonight, look at the person across from you as if you did not already know their whole story. Ask something you would ask a stranger you found interesting.
  3. When a coworker annoys you in a meeting, stop narrating them in your head for sixty seconds. Just watch and listen, and see what you missed while you were busy judging.
