PROTESTANT

New means new in kind, not lately made, and the word beside it names the whole created order. God does the making; the person remade is the work, not the workman. Anyone joined to Christ by trust stands inside that claim, with no further qualification.

The old that passed is the former life and the record behind it, and the newness reaches the whole person, not one corner. Both stand finished rather than pending. Someone may still feel like the old self for years. God's verdict settles what a person now is, ahead of any sense of progress.

CATHOLIC

Catholic

Being joined to Christ changes what a person actually is, not only how God chooses to regard them. Grace works below the level of feeling, remaking the soul at its root, which is why the change holds on days when nothing feels different at all.

That newness arrives in baptism and is handed back whenever someone confesses sin and is absolved, meaning the guilt is genuinely wiped out rather than covered over. The old self does not vanish in an afternoon. Habits, memories and appetites take years to catch up, and the daily work of a Christian is growing into a life already given.

ORTHODOX

Orthodox

Being joined to Christ remakes the person, not just his record. What happens is closer to a birth than a pardon, a whole creation starting over inside one life. The old self is buried and a new one raised in its place, which is what the water of baptism is doing.

Being in Christ means being inside him, joined to his body the Church and fed there. From inside, everything looks different because everything is different. The same work, the same neighbors, the same troubles, all of it now belongs to God and is on its way to being made whole.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

To be 'in Christ' is to live in the awakened state of consciousness, no longer trapped inside the old identity made of memory, grievance, and habitual thought. When this shift takes place, the person you took yourself to be, the whole accumulated story of 'me,' begins to dissolve.

Old things are passed away. This does not mean your outer circumstances suddenly transform. It means you no longer see through the heavy filter of the past. You look upon the same world, yet everything in it appears fresh and alive, because you are finally present to it and meeting it directly rather than through old memory. This is how all things become new: your perception awakens, and the world you always had is revealed to you as if for the first time.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

To be in Christ is to live from the awakened higher self rather than the old animal mind, and the new creature is consciousness reborn on that plane, the same body now run by a different governor. Nothing outside has changed: the transformation is an inward shift of who sits at the center and perceives.

The old things that pass away are the former patterns of thought, the fear and grasping of the flesh-bound self, dissolving as the light takes the throne. When awareness rises into the Christ level within, the whole familiar world is met fresh, seen through eyes no longer ruled by the lower self.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

There is a center in a person deeper than the everyday self that runs the day. For most of a life it stays out of reach. But now and then someone makes contact with it, and when that happens, something in them dies and something new takes its place.

The old way of seeing the world falls away. The world itself has not changed, yet everything looks different, because the one looking has been remade from the inside. This is not a fresh coat of paint on an old life. It is a real second birth, and afterward a person cannot go back to who they were.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

It is genuinely possible to become a new person, and this is one of the most hopeful things you can know. Whatever you were, whatever damage you carried and whatever damage you caused, does not have to be the final word. When someone reorients his life around the highest good, the old identity built on resentment and failure can actually be set down, not merely managed but left behind.

This is not a cosmetic change but a transformation at the root, a shift in what a person is aimed at that makes the whole world look different because he is looking at it differently. You are not condemned to remain who you have been. A real rebirth is available to anyone willing to undergo it.

Anicca: Impermanence Anicca is the mark that everything put together comes apart. The old things did not need to be shoved offstage, they were already on their way out, the way a house nobody repairs comes down in the rain. Hearing their passing as good news is possible only for someone who has quit holding them in place.

Sakkāya-diṭṭhi: Identity view Sakkāya-diṭṭhi is the assumption that a self stands behind body and mind, owning them. Among the old things that pass, this is the one whose going makes a person new without a single new part being delivered. For a congregation busy sorting out who belongs to whom, the old ledger of me and mine closes, and nobody is left to keep it.

Gotrabhū: Change of lineage Gotrabhū is the turning point where someone leaves the ordinary run of people and enters the noble family. New creation is that kind of change: the same person in a different line, the way a child adopted into a household keeps their face and takes a new name. Nothing gets added to the body or the history, and still the whole life is running under another roof.

Dhammaja: Born of the Dhamma Dhammaja is the disciple counted as offspring of the teaching, born from its mouth. "In Christ" works as a place that becomes a parentage: whoever stands there starts to take after it. Family resemblance comes from living in the house, the way a person ends up sounding like everyone they were raised among.

Dhammacakkhu: The eye of Dhamma Dhammacakkhu is the opening of sight in which arising and ceasing become plain. "Behold" carries the weight of the line, since nothing out in the street has been swapped for a replacement, and all things have become new because the seeing has. Koṇḍañña listened once and the eye opened, and the same trees stood where they had always stood, looking like something else entirely.

CYBERNETICS

Cybernetics

A man is never chained to the person his past made him. The old self-image, built from failures and the emotional scars of things long over, feels permanent only because he keeps rehearsing it, but it is a picture, and a picture can be redrawn.

The moment he genuinely accepts a new image of himself, the old one begins to release its grip and the world looks different because he is looking through different eyes. He is not repairing the former man; he is living from a fresh one. This is why real change can feel sudden: the scenery outside seems new because the inner picture has finally become new.

SUFISM

Tawba: Turning back Al-Ghazali places this first on the whole path, the turn away from a life a person has finished with. Someone at that point has not simply decided to behave better; the old way has stopped fitting, like clothes that belong to a smaller body. The turn itself happens fast, while the habits it leaves behind fade slowly, and their fading is part of the same change.

Fanāʾ: The self passing away Sufis use the word for the self dropping out of the middle of the picture. A person in this state stops keeping score of their record, their standing, their name. They still eat and work and talk, but the running defense of themselves has gone quiet, and living gets much lighter.

Baqāʾ: Remaining, life carried on in God Junayd put it plainly: God makes a person die to themselves, then live through Him. Someone living this way still chooses, works, and loves, only the push behind it no longer comes from their own hunger to matter. A friend might see the same person doing the same things, while the footing under all of it has moved.

Ṣibghat Allāh: The coloring of God The Quran speaks of God's coloring, and Sufis return to that picture again and again. Cloth left in the dye comes out changed through every thread, and the color will not wash out. A person kept close to God changes the same way: patience and kindness stop being an effort and become what they are made of.

Tajdīd al-khalq: Creation renewed at every moment Ibn Arabi taught that nothing carries over from one instant to the next; each moment is made fresh. Most days a person cannot feel this, because they meet the morning through yesterday's mood and last year's grudges. When those loosen their grip, the same street and the same faces come at them new, and the day stops feeling like a rerun.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

Change is a decision made in a single instant to become a different person and then live the proof, not a slow renovation of the old self. The past a person keeps rehearsing stays alive only because they keep feeding it, and the moment they cut off retreat, the old identity loses its grip.

Most people carry their history like a sentence, believing who they were dictates who they must remain. A man who truly decides can leave an entire identity behind, because the self is a choice renewed each day. Real change begins the moment a person stops asking permission from their old story.

Live 2 Corinthians 5:17 today

  1. If you catch yourself scrolling back through old messages or photos to remind yourself what you used to be like, close the app and let that stay closed today. The record is not the verdict.
  2. Someone in your life is still being treated as the version of them from five years ago, maybe by you, maybe in a group chat. Speak to them today as who they actually are now.
  3. When you get the email or the comment in the meeting that makes you feel like a fraud, do not argue with the feeling. Carry on with the next task anyway, because what you are does not depend on how convincing you feel.

Where am I still living out of a file that has already been closed?

A student asked how long enlightenment takes. The teacher said it is already yours, you are only slow to believe it. The change is not earned by the years of sitting, the years of sitting catch up with the change.
