Self-Help

Water fills only the space you dug while there was still no reason on earth to dig it.

Capacity gets built before supply arrives, and whoever waits for the supply to justify the building receives the flood and keeps none of it. Trenches cut into dry sand by men already out of water are belief in its physical form: the conviction sets a state, the state makes absurd labor feel reasonable, and the labor leaves a shape the water can be held in.

Yahweh gives the order before he gives the water, because the digging is the part a person controls. Prepare only for what is already visible, and the thing you asked for passes through, drains off, and you file it as proof that asking does nothing.

Live 2 Kings 3:16 today

  1. Make room today for something you want that has not shown up yet, clear the shelf, block the hour on the calendar, open the account. Do it before it makes any sense.
  2. Offer someone help with the part they have not reached yet, the hard conversation next week, the move next month, and get the practical piece ready with them now.
  3. When you are flat out and there is no time, spend ten minutes setting up tomorrow anyway, the clothes, the list, the first line of the email. That is the ditch.

What would you have to get ready for if you actually expected the answer to come?

The usefulness of a cup is the empty space inside it. What holds anything is the hollow that was shaped before there was anything to pour.

Judaism · Pirkei Avot

If not now, when. The work is prepared before it is needed, because the moment that requires it does not stop to wait for you to get ready.

Stoicism · Seneca

He wrote that the time to prepare is in calm water, since the storm permits no preparation. Whoever waits for the trouble to justify the training meets it untrained.
