Acts 10:14 Meaning But Peter Said

But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

What does Acts 10:14 mean?

A boundary a person never chose, only absorbed, will answer on their behalf before they have decided anything. Revulsion moves faster than reasoning, and the speed is the tell: a rule kept since childhood has been filed under reality instead of under training.

A boundary a person never chose, only absorbed, will answer on their behalf before they have decided anything.

Revulsion moves faster than reasoning, and the speed is the tell: a rule kept since childhood has been filed under reality instead of under training. Filed there, it sets the state the instant the thing appears, the state throws the refusal, and the refusal clears the mouth before anyone asks who is giving the order. The Lord is addressed and overruled in the same breath.

What makes such a boundary durable is that every reference under it is a good one, gathered from obedience, not fear, so a man can spend a lifetime never testing a rule he was right to keep. This one was drawn around food and operating on people. Keeping it would have cost a Roman household their place in what had just been opened, and cost him the work already standing at his door.

Live Acts 10:14 today

  1. Catch one flinch today, the food you will not try, the kind of person you skip past online, the topic you shut down, and ask where you first learned it. You may find a parent's voice rather than your own conclusion.
  2. Let someone bring you into something you would normally decline: their family's cooking, their music, their way of doing a task at work. Say yes once before your reasons line up.
  3. When a fast no jumps out of your mouth in a meeting or a message, sit with it for ten seconds before defending it. Ask whether you are protecting something true or something merely familiar.

Which of my rules have I never actually examined, only inherited?
