Acts 27:35 · World English Bible
When he had said this, and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all, then he broke it and began to eat.
When everything around you is breaking apart, the mind insists that safety lies somewhere ahead, in the next hour, in a rescue that has not yet come. Yet here is a man who stops, takes bread into his hands, and gives thanks before he eats.

EGO & BEING
When everything around you is breaking apart, the mind insists that safety lies somewhere ahead, in the next hour, in a rescue that has not yet come. Yet here is a man who stops, takes bread into his hands, and gives thanks before he eats. He is not waiting for the storm to end before he consents to live.
He has found the one place fear cannot reach, and that place is this moment. Gratitude is what arises when you stop resisting what is and bring your full attention to the small thing in front of you. That is why he could eat while others trembled. His attention rested here, in the breaking of bread, not in the disaster his mind was rehearsing.

SELF-HELP
A crew's whole state gets set by the one person who moves before the storm gives permission.
Chewing changes the physiology, and physiology is where a state gets built: food and an unclenched jaw alter the breathing, the breathing alters what dread is able to do, and a man off pure fear can think again about ropes and rudders. Thanks given to God out loud runs the same chain through language and focus, pulling attention off the wind and onto the one who holds it.
Two hundred and seventy five frozen men watching someone chew begin to treat survival as a live option, and that belief puts their hands back on the tackle. Anyone waiting to feel steady before acting steady stays weak, and weak men do not swim to shore.
Ego v. Being lens
What good thing is in front of you right now that you are postponing until things calm down?
When you eat, just eat. When you walk, just walk. The whole practice lives in giving your full attention to the small ordinary thing already in your hands.
You suffer less from events than from your rehearsal of them. The dinner in front of you is real. The shipwreck in your head is not here yet.
The way is not found by adding and striving but by letting go, until what is right here is enough.
