Courage spreads from whoever moves first, and a man eating in a storm tells everyone watching what to believe.

One person's physiology sets the state of a room faster than any argument reaches it. Bread broken and swallowed in front of frightened men is a case made with the body: whoever chews expects to be alive tomorrow, and the expectation transfers before anyone has reasoned about it.

Focus had already been aimed for them, onto a promise from God about how this ends; the food turned that focus into something they could feel in their hands and their stomachs, the felt state produced action, and the action carried every soul aboard through the surf onto sand. Fear left uninterrupted keeps a crew from the exact work that would have saved them.

Live Acts 27:36 today

  1. Choose one thing you want to be true in your home or your team and do it yourself today without announcing it. Put the phone away at dinner, start on time, say the kind thing first.
  2. When the group chat is spinning, be the first to say something steady and ordinary. One calm message changes the temperature faster than three reasonable paragraphs.
  3. Under pressure, let your body tell the truth you want others to believe. Sit down, unclench your jaw, take the breath, and let the people watching take one too.

Who is watching you today, and what are they learning from how you carry it?

The same truth in other traditions

Confucius · Analects

He taught that the one who leads goes first and works, because people follow what a person does long before they weigh what a person says.

Zen

The teacher does not explain calm, the teacher sits, and the room learns from the posture.

Stoicism · Seneca

He said the long way is through instruction and the short way is through example, since we believe a life before we believe an argument.
