Acts 5:4 Meaning While You Kept It

While you kept it, didn’t it remain your own? After it was sold, wasn’t it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You haven’t lied to men, but to God.

What does Acts 5:4 mean?

No one asked you to give what was yours. While it remained, it was yours to keep or release freely.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

No one asked you to give what was yours. While it remained, it was yours to keep or release freely. The trouble was never the possession but the division inside you, the part that wanted to appear generous while quietly holding back. This is the false self, always managing an image, always performing for others.

And here is what could not be seen from within that performance. The pretense was arranged for people, yet the presence you are pretending toward is the very awareness looking out through you. You cannot deceive that. To lie there is only to fall out of alignment with your own being.

  1. Before you post or send something good you did, sit with it for a minute and see whether you would still do it if nobody heard about it.
  2. The next time you are asked for time or money you do not want to give, say the smaller true number instead of the bigger one you will quietly shave later.
  3. In a meeting where everyone is agreeing, if you do not actually agree, say so plainly and briefly. The discomfort passes faster than the pretense does.

Where today are you performing a generosity you have not really decided on?
