Colossians 1:26 · World English Bible
the mystery which has been hidden for ages and generations. But now it has been revealed to his saints,
A mystery hidden through all the ages, and yet not far away, not locked in some distant heaven. It was concealed only because the mind was always looking elsewhere, chasing the next thought, the next moment, missing what was quietly present the whole time.
From the Ego v. Being reading below.
The same verse, read by 3 traditions.

EGO & BEING
A mystery hidden through all the ages, and yet not far away, not locked in some distant heaven. It was concealed only because the mind was always looking elsewhere, chasing the next thought, the next moment, missing what was quietly present the whole time.
Now it is made manifest. Not discovered as new information, but revealed to those who became still enough to see. The mystery is the aliveness at the center of your own being, the awareness in which this very moment appears. It was hidden not by God but by the noise of thinking. When the noise subsides, what was always here simply becomes visible, and you understand that the secret of the ages was your own presence.

MANIFESTATION
The secret kept back through every age was never a doctrine written down somewhere waiting to be found. The secret was a fact about the person reading. His own awareness, the plain sense that he exists, is the power that shapes his world. Generations passed it by because they searched outside themselves for a rescuer who had been sitting behind their own eyes the whole while.
What gets uncovered is not new information but a recognition. A man wakes one ordinary day. Without argument, he feels that the imagining going on inside him is the maker of his circumstances. That felt certainty is what the old writers meant by the mystery made plain. The saint is the person in whom this has finally dawned. He knows himself to be the origin of what he had been blaming on the world.

SUFISM
A secret kept for ages can make the heart proud of being let in, as if the treasure were a prize for the clever. But it was never earned; it was hidden the way a spring hides underground until the ground is ready to be opened, and the cure is gratitude quiet enough to keep serving others instead of boasting.
The hiding and the showing are one act of love. What was concealed wanted all along to be known, and it comes to light in the humbled heart because only there is the ground soft enough to receive it.
Ego v. Being lens
What have I been scanning the horizon for, when it has been sitting here with me the whole time?
The deepest thing cannot be named or captured in speech, and the moment you reach for words you have already stepped past it. It was never far off, only unseen because we were busy describing.
A student searches everywhere for the ox he is already riding. The seeking itself is what keeps the found thing hidden.
That which you have been looking for all along is the very awareness looking. The treasure was buried in the field you were standing in.
