Colossians 2:2 Meaning That Their Hearts May Be Comforted

that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and gaining all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,

What does Colossians 2:2 mean?

The mystery of God, the Father, and Christ is one thing seen from within: Christ is human imagination itself, the buried power that awakens as the dreamer, and the Father is what that power becomes conscious of being. To acknowledge this mystery is to know these are not three figures outside you but the single I AM at the center of your own life.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The mystery of God, the Father, and Christ is one thing seen from within: Christ is human imagination itself, the buried power that awakens as the dreamer, and the Father is what that power becomes conscious of being. To acknowledge this mystery is to know these are not three figures outside you but the single I AM at the center of your own life. The full assurance of understanding is the settled certainty that imagination is God and shapes all a person sees.

Hearts are knit together in love because all perceived life is animated by the one perceiver, so there is no other to harm or to fear. A person is comforted the moment he grasps that the God he sought is his own awareness of being.

SUFISM

Sufism

The wish here is that scattered, anxious hearts be comforted and tied together, healing the loneliness of people guarding separate corners. Threads lying loose are weak and cold; woven, they become one warm cloth. The real riches are not private insight but love that binds, so a person knits himself to others instead of hoarding.

And what such joined hearts come to know is the deepest secret of all: behind the many there is One. That mystery is not a fact to collect but a Presence to let in, found in the warmth of hearts that have stopped standing apart.

Live Colossians 2:2 today

  1. Take two minutes with your eyes closed and drop every label you use for yourself, the job, the roles, the worries. Stay with the bare sense that you are, and let that be enough company.
  2. At dinner or on a walk, look at the person across from you and hold the thought that the awareness looking out of them is the same one looking out of you. Say less than usual and let that change how you listen.
  3. When someone cuts you off in traffic or snaps at you in a thread, feel the spike, then quietly remind yourself there is no second one here to defeat. Answer from that, or do not answer at all.

If the life looking back at you were your own, what would you stop fighting today?

Advaita Vedanta · Ramana Maharshi

He taught that the sense of simply being, the plain "I am" before any description, is the one thing that is truly divine. Sit with it long enough and the search for God somewhere else quietly ends.

Zen

The teachers say all the ten thousand things come back to one, and that one is your own true face. Seeing it, there is nothing left standing outside you to defend against.

Isha Upanishad

The text says whoever sees everything in himself, and himself in everything, cannot hate or fear. Harm needs two, and he has stopped finding the second.
