Colossians 2:3 · World English Bible
in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden.
A figure said to hold every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is really an image of the whole self. People place their own lost wholeness onto that figure, because such fullness feels too great to be their own.

PSYCHOANALYSIS
A figure said to hold every treasure of wisdom and knowledge is really an image of the whole self. People place their own lost wholeness onto that figure, because such fullness feels too great to be their own.
The treasures are hidden because they lie in the deeper layers of the mind, below awareness, in what we inherit rather than invent. A man who feels empty and then dreams of buried gold is meeting that wealth for the first time. The wisdom is not held by a distant savior. It lives in you already, and comes to light when you turn inward and listen to what rises from within.

BUDDHISM
Nidhi: Buried treasure A hoard sunk in a pit by the river can be stolen, flooded, or simply forgotten, and it stays in the ground when the one who buried it dies. Wealth of this other kind cannot be dug up with anyone else's shovel, and it goes wherever its owner goes. Colossians with nothing worth burying are being told the whole deposit already stands to their account.
Sammāsambuddha: One fully awakened Someone pushes through an overgrown track, comes out at an old city, and can then bring others down the same road. Treasures kept "in whom" work that way: the wisdom is a living attainment in a person, and getting to it means walking toward where that person stands. A copied map helps nobody who stays indoors.
Gambhīra: Depth A coin lying on the bottom of a clear pool sits in plain sight, and nobody lifts it by leaning further over the bank. Depth is its own kind of hiding, and treasures that far down stay covered while you stand dry. Reaching them means going in after them, which is how they can be close at hand and unfound for years.
Ācariyamuṭṭhi: The teacher's closed fist A teacher with a closed fist saves the last portion for insiders. The instructors circulating in Colossae ran on that model, dangling a higher grade of knowledge behind their rules about food and festival days. Storing every treasure in one person open to all empties the fist: there is no back room, and the deepest of it comes on the same terms as the first thing anyone hears.
Paññā: Wisdom Treasures of wisdom sound like a hoard to be counted; the thing stored is a capacity to see. Someone can recite a medical text start to finish and still miss the patient breathing badly in front of them. Drawing on this store looks like watching your own greed and fear as they come up, so the riches stay shut to a reader who only wants more to know.
Vijjā: Clear knowing Knowledge here is the lamp coming on in a room you have been feeling your way around for years. Nothing in the room moved; ignorance was lying over all of it. Treasures can sit uncovered in the middle of the floor and be lost to everyone standing there, so the uncovering happens in the eye that looks.

CYBERNETICS
The wealth a person most needs is not out in the world to be hunted down. It lies stored inside, hidden the way an underground spring is hidden, waiting under the surface of the ordinary self. Every capacity for insight and skill already lives within, kept out of sight until a person learns where to look.
Most go searching outward for what has been theirs all along. The treasure is called hidden, not absent. When someone turns inward and trusts what is stored there, gifts he never knew he owned begin to come up into the light.

SUFISM
A learned heart loves to display what it knows, as if wisdom were a coin it had earned and could spend. The real treasure lies hidden, the way gold waits inside a mountain no clever eye can spot, and the cure is to stop collecting facts for admiration and bow before what cannot be owned.
The hiding is an invitation, not a wall. Everything worth knowing is stored in one place, so that a person seeking it is drawn toward the One who holds it, and the search for knowledge becomes a search for Him.
Psychoanalysis lens
Whose wisdom have you been waiting for that you already carry?
From the beginning all beings are already complete. We search outside for what we are standing on, like someone in water crying out for a drink.
That which is the finest essence, the whole world is made of it, and you are that. The thing sought is the one seeking.
What you are looking for is looking out of your own eyes. Stop knocking on other doors and open the one you are standing behind.
