There is a life within you that is not your history, not your name, not the story you tell about who you are. It is the still awareness that was here before you learned what you were supposed to be.

EGO & BEING
There is a life within you that is not your history, not your name, not the story you tell about who you are. It is the still awareness that was here before you learned what you were supposed to be. Most people live entirely on the surface, identified with the passing forms of their existence, and so this deeper life stays hidden.
When it finally emerges into your conscious knowing, something quiet and complete happens. You emerge with it. The being you sensed in that inner stillness turns out to be your own true nature, no longer covered over by thought and circumstance. What had been concealed becomes visible, and the real you comes into the light along with it.

SUFISM
Sirr: the innermost secret, the part of a person only God sees Sirr names the deepest layer of someone, hidden even from their own view. A person living quietly and well often has almost nothing to show for it, and the visible record looks thin next to what is going on inside. That inner weight is held somewhere safe, out of sight, and it is not lost while it waits.
Bury yourself in the ground of obscurity, for what sprouts unburied does not ripen: hiddenness comes before the showing A saying of Ibn Ata Allah compares a person to a seed put in the ground. Going unrecognized feels like being wasted, and the pull is to force some proof now that the life counts for something. The buried stretch is where the growing happens, and whatever appears later comes out of that unseen time.
I become the hearing they hear with and the sight they see with: the life at work is God's A saying of the Prophet has God speak this about someone who keeps drawing near. Hearing that your life belongs to another can sound like being erased, and something in us resists handing over the wheel. Nothing about the person gets deleted; the power moving their ordinary days simply turns out to have another source.
Baqāʾ: what remains once the self has passed away Junayd paired this with fanāʾ, the dropping away of the self's claim on its own life. Someone who stops building an identity out of their own effort can feel like they have gone missing from their life. The living carries on, steadier than before, held up by God instead of by a person's grip on themselves.
Tajallī: God shining out, showing what was already there Ibn Arabi uses the word for the moment a covering comes off and light that was present all along becomes visible. Any glory that arrives later is not manufactured on the spot; it comes out of what was quietly in place. A person long overlooked finally gets seen for what they were carrying the whole time.
Ego v. Being lens
Who am I when nobody needs anything from me?
The true self is like a face hidden behind a cloth of names and roles. Lift it and the discovery is not a stranger but who you always were.
A teacher asks for your face before your parents were born. He is pointing at the part of you that came before your story, resume, and reputation.
Return to stillness and you return to the root. What you find there is not an achievement, it is the original condition showing through.
