Daniel 12:12 Meaning Blessed Is He Who Waits

Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred thirty-five days.

What does Daniel 12:12 mean?

Blessedness waits at the far end of a count, and the count is not calendar but numerology, the ancient art of weighing a number down to its single hidden digit. Add the figures of 1335 and they fall to 12, and 12 falls again to 3, and 3 in the old reckoning is positive new life, spirit taking root in the flesh.

Every day in that long tally is a state of the meditating mind, a small shift of the inner life toward the good, and the one who reaches the end has passed through all of them and been remade.

The blessing belongs to the one who does not force the count but lets each state ripen in turn. Nothing here is bought or hurried; the biological computer of the brain is slowly handed to its true operator, day by refined day, until the sum arrives at new life. To reach 1335 is simply to let the whole inner arithmetic complete itself, so the number 3, positive new life, is finally what a person becomes.

Live Daniel 12:12 today

  1. Give today's quiet minutes without checking what they produced. One day in a long count, and the counting itself is what you are learning to let go of.
  2. With someone who is changing slowly, a partner, a kid, a friend trying to quit something, say nothing about how long it is taking. Let them have their own pace for one more day.
  3. When you feel the itch to rush a result at work, name it as the itch and keep going at the pace that actually works. Fast is not the same as finished.

What in me would be further along if I stopped trying to hurry it?

Tao Te Ching 64

A great tree grows from a seed, and the long journey goes a step at a time. Hurrying the count is how people ruin what was already ripening.

Zen

Plant the seed, water it, and the flower opens in its own hour. Pulling at the petals does not make it bloom sooner.
