Daniel 12:13 Meaning But Go Your Way Until the End

“But go your way until the end; for you will rest, and will stand in your inheritance at the end of the days.”

What does Daniel 12:13 mean?

There is a path that is yours alone, and walking it does not mean racing toward some distant finish where life will finally begin. The mind is forever leaning into the future, waiting for the end of the days to grant it rest.

Ego v. Being

There is a path that is yours alone, and walking it does not mean racing toward some distant finish where life will finally begin. The mind is forever leaning into the future, waiting for the end of the days to grant it rest.

But rest is not stored somewhere ahead of you. To stand in your lot is to be fully here, in your own place, without wishing you were further along. When you give yourself completely to the step you are taking now, the restlessness dissolves and the peace you were waiting for is already here.

Live Daniel 12:13 today

  1. Do one task today without checking how much is left. Just the dishes, just the paragraph, just the walk to the car.
  2. When someone asks how it's going, resist answering with what you are waiting for. Tell them what you are actually doing this week instead.
  3. Stuck in traffic or a slow line, drop the running estimate of when this will be over. You are already somewhere, and it is here.

What are you postponing your life until?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen

A monk asked what the way is, and the answer was the ordinary mind. Not the next thing, this thing.

Stoicism · Seneca

While we wait for life to begin, it passes. The rest you are saving up for is being spent on the waiting.

Bhagavad Gita

Do the work that is yours, imperfectly, rather than someone else's done well. Your own place is the only ground you can actually stand on.
