Daniel 4:13 · World English Bible
I saw in the visions of my head on my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from the sky.
The watcher is the faculty of attention turned back upon the self, the observer whose looking is never idle: to watch a thing inwardly is to fix it, to bring the wavering possibility down into one hard fact. Here that fixing falls as a sentence.

ESOTERIC
The watcher is the faculty of attention turned back upon the self, the observer whose looking is never idle: to watch a thing inwardly is to fix it, to bring the wavering possibility down into one hard fact. Here that fixing falls as a sentence. Descending from the crown into the field of a swollen life, the watcher does not merely guard; it decrees, and what it decrees is the felling of the proud tree and a season of madness for the mind that mistook its own height for the summit. The holy one is that same pure attention, undivided, carrying the ruling down from above.
The self observed under a clear light is the self measured, and a life grown top-heavy is marked for its cutting down.
Watcher: the inward observer whose steady looking collapses the wavering possibility and sets the sentence upon a life Holy one: the pure undivided attention descending from the crown, carrying its ruling into the lower field
Esoteric lens
What in me am I keeping in the dark because I already know what the clear light would say about it?
The mind untrained builds its own ruin, and no enemy does the damage a person's own unguarded thinking does. The one who watches that mind closely is the one who escapes the sentence.
Fill a cup past the brim and it spills; sharpen a blade too fine and it breaks. What rises too high has already written its own falling.
Keep a part of yourself awake as a watchman over the rest, looking at your impressions before you agree to them. That steady inner looking is what saves you from being carried off by them.
