Ego v. Being

Peace is offered to everyone, to those who feel far from the source and to those who feel already close. And here is the quiet secret: the distance was never real. It was measured only in the mind, in your story of how lost or how worthy you are.

The moment you become present, that whole measurement collapses. There is no far and no near, because presence is not a place you travel toward but the aliveness already here in this breath. The peace comes not to reward those who arrived. It comes to all alike, because the stillness it speaks from was always equally near.

Live Ephesians 2:17 today

  1. Whenever you feel behind today, spiritually, personally, in any way, stop and feel your own breathing for a few seconds. Nothing to catch up to. You are already here.
  2. Reach out to someone you have been avoiding because too much time has passed. Send the plain message anyway. The distance was mostly a story you were telling yourself.
  3. In the middle of the rush, the traffic, the late train, the pile of emails, put both feet flat on the ground and feel the weight of your body. Peace is not after all this. It is available in it.

How far from home do I imagine myself to be right now, and who measured that distance?

Zen · Dogen

You do not travel to enlightenment the way you travel to a city. It is already here, under your feet, in this breath. Practice is not the road to it, practice is it.

Hinduism · Kena Upanishad

What you are looking for is nearer than near, the awareness by which you see at all. You cannot approach it, because there is no distance to cross.

Sufism · a saying of the dervishes

You search the whole world for the treasure, and it is buried under your own floor. The journey only teaches you that you never left home.
