EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

To pray always is not to speak endless words to some distant power. It is to remain awake, to stay in unbroken contact with the aliveness within you. Prayer in the Spirit is not asking but aligning, letting the deeper stillness move through you instead of the anxious wanting of the mind.

And watching thereunto with all perseverance is simply this: staying present, again and again, whenever attention drifts back into thought. You return to awareness as often as you leave it. That gentle, repeated return to the Now is the true prayer, because it keeps you rooted in Being rather than lost in the noise of thinking.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

Prayer in the Spirit is not words sent to a distant sky but the deliberate exciting of the electrons in the body until they release their photons, the small particles of light that are Spirit itself moving through the nervous system. To pray always is to keep that current running rather than sparking it once and letting it die; the perseverance the passage insists on is the long steadiness that separates the one who tastes a first flash of inner light from the one who quits before the light becomes a settled state. The saints, the separated ones already lifted out of ordinary mind, are held in that watching, for the act of watching is what draws the divine into physical existence.

A person who keeps the inner light kindled through the long stretch, past the first excitement, is the one in whom Spirit takes lasting hold.

Spirit: the photon, the particle of light released within the body when its energy is raised Prayer: the exciting of electrons that dispatches photons through the nervous system Saints: the separated ones, the faculties already lifted out of the ordinary sense-mind

SUFISM

Sufism

The heart grows lazy and prays only when it wants something, then falls silent once the want is met. It heals by keeping the line open at all hours and by asking not only for itself but for people it will never meet, since a prayer that reaches past the self loosens its own private grip.

Staying awake in this way is not straining to be heard from far off. The nearness is already there, closer than the breath forming the words, and the one who prays without stopping is simply turning to face what was never absent.

Live Ephesians 6:18 today

  1. Pick one ordinary trigger, your kettle boiling or your phone unlocking, and let it be a small cue to come back to where you are. A few seconds is plenty.
  2. Before you walk into a room where someone needs you, pause at the door and arrive first. You have nothing to give from a mind still back in the last conversation.
  3. In a long meeting, when you drift off into tomorrow's worries, come back to the sound of the voice in the room without scolding yourself. Leaving and returning is the whole rhythm.

How gently can you bring yourself back the next time you drift?

Sufism

Remembrance is not a thing you do at set times. It is a steady turning of the heart back toward what is real, all day long.

Zen

Attention wanders ten thousand times, and ten thousand times you bring it gently home. The returning is the practice, not a sign of failure.

Whenever the restless mind slips away, draw it quietly back and settle it again. Patience with yourself is part of the work.
