A man newly delivered from bondage refuses to leave empty-handed, and his refusal marks the difference between escaping a master and standing before the highest. Freedom is not the mere absence of chains. He will not walk out having bargained away the very animals he needs to offer, because worship without cost is no worship at all. To approach what orders your life, you must bring something you would rather keep.

Sacrifice is the discovery that built civilization itself. To surrender a present good, deliberately and at cost, for the sake of the future and the eternal, is how a person opens a channel to what governs him. No one comes before the divine with hands that hold nothing. The tyrant would let the people go while keeping their means of devotion hostage, and that is the subtler slavery. A person is fully free only when he can give up what he values toward an aim that dwarfs him.

Live Exodus 10:25 today

  1. Give away something today that you would genuinely rather hold on to. An hour, some money, the thing on the shelf you keep meaning to use.
  2. Pay for someone else's thing without making it a story. The coffee, the groceries, the bill in the group chat. Let it cost you a little and stay quiet about it.
  3. When you are stretched thin and someone needs your time, give it anyway once today. Not all of it, but the piece you were saving for yourself.

When was the last time your generosity actually cost you something?
