Exodus 12:5 · World English Bible

Exodus 12:5 Meaning Your Lamb Shall Be Without Defect

Your lamb shall be without defect, a male a year old. You shall take it from the sheep, or from the goats.

What does Exodus 12:5 mean?

The lamb is the innocent life force within a person, the gentle vital energy that must be offered up unmarked for the passage out of bondage. Without blemish means the inner offering has to be pure, an energy undivided by the stains of the lower nature, and a male of the first year is that force in its fresh, potent, undissipated state, young and whole.

It is drawn from among the flock, chosen out of the common herd of impulses, because not every energy in a person is fit for the crossing.

What is set apart is the clean, first strength of one's own being, taken from sheep or goats, from the meek or the willful currents alike. The self offers its purest, freshest vitality, unspoiled and at full power, as the price of moving from bondage into freedom.

Lamb: the innocent vital life force within a person, the gentle energy offered for the passage Sheep: the meek, yielding currents of impulse in the body from which the pure force is drawn Goats: the willful, driving currents of impulse in the body, the other flock the offering may come from

Live Exodus 12:5 today

  1. Take the freshest part of your day, your first clear hour, and give it to what matters most instead of to the feed. The best of you is a choice about timing.
  2. Give one person your undivided attention today: phone away, screen off, body turned toward them. Not the tired version of you at eleven at night, the awake version.
  3. When the pressure comes and you want to hand over something half done just to be rid of it, slow down and do the small piece properly. Half-hearted work costs the same hours and buys nothing.

Where in your life are you offering what is left over instead of what is best?

Whatever you do, make it an offering, and make it with faith rather than for a return. The spirit in which a thing is given is what makes it an offering at all.
